Prawn Fry

If you are a sea food lover, prawns are definitely in your sea food platter. They are called as prawns or shrimps in different parts of the world. Prawns are high in calcium and contain other minerals like iodine, sodium, phosphorous and zinc. Prawns are a rich source of Omega 3 fatty acids and they can be cooked to make spicy gravies,crispy starters and in some countries they are pickled and preserved for further use.

Prawn Fry is made quick with simple and easily available. This quick fry can be made under 10 minutes excluding marination time. It goes great with plain rice and sambar rice.


 

Preparation Time : 5 mins

Marination Time : 30 mins

Cooking Time : 10 mins


Ingredients :

  • 250g prawns (de-shelled)

  • Oil for frying

To crush

  • 3 teaspoon cumin

  • 3 spring curry leaves

  • 6-7 cloves garlic

  • Salt as required

  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder

  • 3 teaspoon red chilli powder


Method :

  1. De-shell the prawns, de-vein and wash properly.

  2. Crush cumin, curry leaves, garlic, turmeric powder, red chilli powder and salt in a grinder. Grind it to coarse mixture.

  3. In a mixing bowl, combine prawns with the coarse mixture. Marinate the mixture for 30 minutes. Ensure prawns are fully coated.

  4. Heat a pan and spread oil. Add more if required.

  5. Deep fry until the prawn turns golden brown. Always fry prawn in low flame. Once done transfer to serving plate.

Serve with white rice or sambar rice.

De-vein the prawn. Just turn the head and tail that allows the prawn shell to break off. Slit open the centre of prawn. Remove the intestine from them which is in black color. Once removed for all wash the prawn in running water thrice.

Serve with rice and sambar.


Tips:

  • Few of the batter will come out of the prawn while frying and settles at the bottom. Do not discard it. Take out those crumbs and serve it along with prawns. It tastes delicious.
